International Women’s Day – Statement from the Law Society
March 8, 2021 marks the 110th anniversary of the first gathering to honour International Women’s Day, which is a day dedicated to celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women and girls.
The International Women’s Day campaign theme this year, “Choose to Challenge”, asks us all to challenge and call out gender bias and inequality and to contribute to gender equality by raising awareness of gender bias, taking action to prevent discrimination on the basis of gender, promoting equality among genders and highlighting the significant contributions made by women and girls to our communities, our province and throughout the world.
The leadership of women around the world in the face of a global pandemic has demonstrated that when women are able to fully and effectively participate and lead in all areas of life, society as a whole benefits.
The Law Society of Newfoundland and Labrador, with guidance from its Equity and Diversity Committee, supports the ongoing work of organizations and individuals to promote the interests and advancement of women and girls throughout all sectors of society and, in particular, within the legal profession and justice system.
