New Appointment to Senate
Judy White, KC, a Mi’kmaw woman from Flat Bay, Newfoundland, was appointed to the Senate on 6 July 2023. Called to the Newfoundland and Labrador Bar on 7 April 1998, Judy previously served as an Assistant Deputy Minister of Indigenous Affairs in Newfoundland and Labrador, became the first Indigenous woman to chair the province’s Human Rights Commission in 2019, and served as Director General of Indigenous Services Canada. In recognition of her substantial contributions to the profession and the administration of justice, and her service to the community, Judy received the Gordon M. Stirling Distinguished Service Award from the Law Society of Newfoundland and Labrador in June of 2023.
Her dedication to access to justice makes her a powerful advocate for Canadians. Congratulations to Judy on this appointment.
