Notice – Passing of Justice David F. Hurley

I am deeply saddened to inform you of the passing of the Honourable David F. Hurley, sitting Justice of the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Justice Hurley was a well-respected lawyer in St. John’s, with the firm Lewis, Sinnott, Shortall, Hurley, Bruce, before his appointment to the bench on February 7, 2013. He first sat in the Judicial Centre of Corner Brook, before transferring to the General Division in St. John’s on December 4, 2016.
Justice Hurley passed away peacefully on the morning of July 15, 2020, in the presence of his wife, Maureen, and children, John and Anne. He will be remembered fondly by the justices and court staff members across the Province, not only for his work ethic and keen legal mind, but also for his quick wit and sense of humour.
