Provincial Court – Notice to the Profession
Re: Expansion of Operations
Issued: April 28, 2020
As a result of recent consultations and the successful adoption of enhanced video capabilities, the Provincial Court of Newfoundland and Labrador will, as of Monday May 4, 2020 be accepting
applications to hear more of the cases which are now listed on our outstanding dockets.
In addition to the types of cases enumerated in the posted Notice of March 28, 2020, the Court will now hear matters (except arraignments or trials) where it can be established that the case
can be efficiently and effectively presented to the Court for adjudication without the need for the physical presence of any person.
However, before any such matter can be heard the parties will be required to obtain, by written application, leave of the Court. The nature of the virtual hearing and the processes by which the
remote appearances might be best achieved can then be determined by the presiding judge.
Anyone wishing to make an application should forward it in the form as prescribed by the Rules to virtual@provincial.court.nl.ca. A time will then be set for its hearing.
