Review – Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act
The Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act, 2015 (ATIPPA) is currently under a statutory review. The Minister of Justice and Public Safety appointed the Honourable David B. Orsborn as a committee of one to conduct the review.
Chair Orsborn has indicated that a number of public body representatives have raised the issue of ATIPPA access provisions being used by solicitors as part of the civil discovery process. The representatives have suggested that the use of ATIPPA resources for this purpose is not in accordance with the objectives of the ATIPPA and places an unnecessary strain on scarce resources.
Members are asked to direct any comments they may wish to make with respect to this issue, at their earliest convenience, to Chair Orsborn in accordance with the directions outlined on the Statutory Review Committee’s website.
