Volunteer Opportunity: Board Member with the Newfoundland & Labrador Folk Arts Society

The Newfoundland & Labrador Folk Arts Society is a charitable organization headquartered in St. John’s, with the mandate to promote and preserve the traditional folk arts of the province. Our signature event is the annual Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Festival in Bannerman Park. We also present Folk Night weekly at the Ship Pub & Kitchen, Young Folk at the Hall, a youth music mentorship program in various locations in the province, and a variety of other special events and concerts throughout the year.

We are currently seeking individuals to join our board of directors, starting in April 2024. Directors serve a minimum of one 2-year term, with a maximum term of 6 years. People from underrepresented groups such as POC, Indigenous, or the 2SLGBTQIA+ community are encouraged to apply. Previous board experience is an asset. We have a particular need for individuals with skills in finance, fund development, governance, and diversity.

Successful applicants must be available, at minimum, the second Tuesday evening each month for board meetings.

Anyone making it to the interview stage will be required to submit a resume.

Questions may be directed to Anna Brophy, President. Email: president@nlfolk.com.
