Volunteer Opportunity – Board of Directors – Bell Island Group
Bell Island Group is seeking expressions of interest from lawyers interested in sitting on the board of directors for a new not-for-profit organization which is in the process of incorporating to assist vulnerable residents of Bell Island in the areas of substance abuse and mental health. This group has already undertaken a number of beneficial activities, such as a needle exchange program and a methadone clinic but is looking to expand its operations and, potentially, seek charitable status in order to carry out its vision, which includes the potential construction of a detox centre with housing, employment training and other services as well as the development of a community centre.
The ideal candidate would be a person comfortable with adopting a harm reduction and evidence-based approach to solving ingrained social problems.
