Legal qualifications received from an institution outside Canada need to be assessed by the Federation of Law Societies of Canada, of which Newfoundland and Labrador is a member. The Federation assesses applications from individuals who have completed legal education outside Canada and wish to qualify for legal practice in Canada. Further information is available on the Federation’s website under the “Foreign Lawyers” section.
Once an applicant has received a Certificate of Qualification from the National Committee on Accreditation (“NCA”), they can apply to the Law Society of Newfoundland and Labrador to become a student-at-law. Please refer to the Student section for admission requirements.
